
Carlotta Mercedes Agnes McCambridge was born March 17 1918, in Joliet, Illinois,
USA. She was a famous radio star before finding success in film. As a character
actress, she created many memorable roles in films such as All the Kings
Men, Giant, Johnny Guitar, Suddenly Last Summer, and Touch of Evil.
She provided the voice of the demon who possessed Linda Blair in The Exorcist.
She has appeared on TV shows such as "Bewitched," "Charlie's Angels," "Lost
in Space," and "Amazing Stories."
Mercedes won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 1950 for her role
in All the King's Men. She also won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting
Actress (All the King's Men) and Most Promising Newcomer-Female. In
1957, she was nominated again for the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress
for her work in Giant.
